Two-story brick home with a dark gray architectural shingle roof in a North Texas suburb

Roofing systems

Architectural shingle.

Laminated asphalt shingles for homes and some light commercial roofs. Re-roofs and repairs in Dallas and Greenville.

What it is

A thicker, layered shingle.

Architectural (laminated) shingles bond two layers of asphalt shingle into one, which gives the roof depth and more weight per square than old three-tab shingles. They are the standard residential roof in North Texas.

A shingle roof is the whole assembly under and around the shingles: the deck, underlayment, ice and water barrier at valleys and penetrations, drip edge, flashing at walls and chimneys, and ridge ventilation. We price each part so you can see what you are buying.

Hail bruises on asphalt shingles after a North Texas storm

North Texas

Hail is the main reason shingles fail here.

Spring storms bring hail across Dallas and Hunt County most years. Impact-resistant (Class 4) shingles are built to take more of it. Some Texas insurers give a premium discount for a Class 4 roof. Ask your agent before you choose, because the discount and the documents it needs vary.

Heat matters too. Attic ventilation, balanced between intake at the eaves and exhaust at the ridge, keeps shingles from cooking from below.

Insurance claims

How we handle a claim-funded roof.

If your insurance is paying for the roof, the estimate follows the scope your adjuster approves. Texas law does not allow a roofing contractor to pay, waive or rebate your deductible, and it does not allow a contractor to act as your public adjuster. We follow both rules. You deal with your insurer; we price and build the roof.

FAQ

Questions GCs and owners ask.

Re-roof or repair?

A few missing or damaged shingles can be repaired. Widespread hail bruising, curling, granule loss or leaks in several places usually mean a re-roof. We'll tell you which one we see.

Do you tear off the old shingles?

Yes, we price the tear-off to the deck. That lets us inspect and replace damaged decking, and building codes limit how many roofs can be stacked on a house.

Are Class 4 shingles worth it?

In North Texas they often are, for durability and sometimes for an insurance discount. They cost more up front. We can price both so you can compare.

Will you work with my insurance company?

We price the roof to the approved scope and provide the documents your insurer asks a contractor for. We do not negotiate your claim and we do not waive deductibles.
